Our Work
A ministry of hope, faith, and second chances
Housing, education, and ongoing care, from the day a mother arrives to long after she leaves.
How We Walk Beside Her
Walking beside mothers every step of the way
Our work begins with a simple belief: that every life has value and every mother deserves a safe place to start again. We provide housing, education, and ongoing care for women and children facing homelessness and crisis pregnancies, rooted in faith and lived out through daily acts of compassion.
1
She Arrives
A homeless, pregnant mother reaches out, and finds a door that opens when she needs it most.
2
Safe Housing
The licensed Nussbaum Maternity Shelter offers rest, meals, medical care, and case management.
3
Education & Training
Classes and accredited job training build the skills for lasting independence.
4
Ongoing Care
Mentoring, childcare, and community continue long after she leaves the shelter.

Safe & Supportive Housing
A licensed shelter at the heart of our ministry
At the heart of our ministry is the Nussbaum Maternity Shelter, licensed to serve homeless pregnant women from across North Carolina. Here, mothers find rest, nutritious meals, medical care, and a safe space to prepare for their child’s birth.
Each woman receives individualized case management, spiritual support, and guidance in building a healthy routine. After giving birth, mothers may remain in the program as they complete school or job training, with help every step of the way.
Education & Job Training
Lasting stability begins with opportunity
Through our partnership with the Volunteer Center, mothers gain access to classes in parenting, financial literacy, and personal development, as well as accredited job training in fields such as healthcare and administration.
- Parenting & life-skills classes
- Financial literacy & budgeting
- Personal development
- Accredited job training
- Healthcare certification tracks
- Administrative certification tracks
Whether earning a professional certification or learning to manage a household budget, each mother builds the skills she needs to care for herself and her child with confidence.

Ongoing Care & Community Support
The journey doesn’t end at the door
A mother’s journey doesn’t end when she leaves the shelter. Through ongoing care, Room At The Inn continues to provide mentoring, transportation, and childcare assistance so that each family can stay on track toward long-term independence.
We help mothers find permanent housing, connect with local churches and employers, and maintain the support network that began here. For many, this ongoing care becomes a lasting bond and a reminder that they are never alone.
Guided by Faith, Driven by Love
Our work is more than a program. It is a ministry.
Guided by faith, we serve with open hearts and open hands, trusting that every act of compassion plants the seed of hope in a mother’s life.
